Apart from baby showers, gender reveal parties have been making waves in the party scene as many expectant mothers and fathers have found a fun way to share their baby's sex with friends and family.

This has been confirmed by Rebecca Michals, community manager of BabyCenter, a digital resource for pregnancy and parenting. According to her, “The gender reveal party trend has exploded in the last year.” When asked about the sudden boom, she explained that the economic downturn may have something to do with the rising social trend as “people are looking for reasons to celebrate”.

Another factor that caused the uptick is social media. Parents are using various social platforms to share their baby's gender in a fun and creative way. “After seeing online videos, I wanted to have that amazing moment too,” shares Katie Martin, BabyCentre community coordinator, who had revealed her fourth child's gender to 60 guests.

Hot Ideas on How to Throw One

Much can be found online on how to throw a “gender reveal” party, and many parents may feel the pressure to throw a really grand one. The good news is, there is no written rule as to how to throw it. There are, however, ideas that can be used as a guide for parents to use when planning the event. The hottest picks for such celebration include the following:

Balloons

Pink or blue balloons in a box are becoming popular for such a celebration. One mum shared how they pulled it off by asking her doctor to write the gender of her baby. The grand-mother-to-be then asked a store clerk to fill a large box with balloons in a colour matching the baby's gender. Angela, the mum, related the experience: “We opened the box in front of our friends and family – and blue balloons flew out!”

Lottery

Thanks to the huge success of the Hunger Games film franchise, there are parents who are using the lottery-style to reveal their child's gender.

Themes

Because cutting a cake with either pink or blue filling is two thousand and late, many expecting parents are incorporating themes for their reveal party to make it extra exciting. Apart from using pregnancy cravings for a theme, national holidays can also be used as a guide to planning such event. Ms. Martin shared, “We combined our reveal party with St. Patrick's Day, which made it extra fun.”
